Indian School: Ninth Dr. Amidas Goradia Debate


It was a great occasion for the senior students from 14 prominent schools from Delhi like Apeejay School Sheikh Sarai, DPS School, Sushant Lok and three schools; Sunbeam School, Sunbeam School  Bhagvanpur, Varuna and Sunbeam School, Lehertara from Varanasi city who participated the ninth Dr. Amidas Goradia debate held at The Indian School, Josip Broz Tito Marg, New Delhi - 110049, India.  The Dr. Amidas Goradia debate was made predominantly distinctive by these three schools from Varanasi.

The Guest of Honour was Mr. Shantanu Guha Ray, Deputy Editor from India Today  and Dr. P.C. Jain, Principal Shri Ram College of Commerce was the Chief Guest.  The esteemed judges chosen for the competition were highly acclaimed personalities from the worlds of media and education.  They were Ms. Shalu Yadav, Ms. Anjilee Istwal, Ms. Ananya Dasgupta, and Ms. Anju Sahgal Gupta.

The Principal Ms. Rashi Narula of Indian School welcomed the great gathering and invited Dr. P.C. Jain to address the students and the parents after traditional lighting of the lamp.  The judges there found the standard of the speeches very inspiring and impressive.
 
The Chief Guest in his speech enriched the assembled students and the teachers with the immense and rich collection of his wisdom and the experience. Committed totally to the values of modesty, determination and Humility, he advised the students of The Indian Schools to always remain focused, alert, positive, dedicated, serious and honest. He assured the outcomes are bound to naturally follow. In the same way, he also professed that the teachers should always be available to enable, support and encourage their students to be so.  Infact, he used an interesting incident during his speech that transpired between Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore, Gurudev to highlight and emphasize how determination and persistence always pays.

Professor Jain in his speech to parents, teachers and the students of The Indian School explained that if we develop seriously as ideal individuals no one can ever substitute or marginalize us. "Grow to be Givers to society as a tree," he pleaded effectively.

Deputy Editor from India Today, Mr. Shantanu Guha Ray, the Guest of Honour started his speech to the gatherings with humor pronouncing that the job of a journalist is a very hectic and stressful one! The highlight of the speech was his citing of his book on M.S.Dhoni and the his great efforts to become what he is today in masses. He gave a special advice to students, specially the students present there from Delhi Indian School and the Varanasi-“ Even if you are a carpenter, when you grow up, shape the best furniture.”



The outcome of the Dr. Amidas Goradia Debate:
Apeejay School Sheikh Sarai was chosen THE BEST SCHOOL;
RUNNER UP:  
SUNBEAM SCHOOL, VARUNA;
Best Interjector- Akanksha Singh of class 12 from DPS School, Sushant Lok;
Best Speaker –
Sugandha Jindal of class 12 from Apeejay School,  Sheikh Sarai;
Second Best Speaker-
Kriti Dang of class 10, The Indian School.
